HIP HOP a HIPTY HIP HOP!
Today is a new day and the HOP has decided to enter the VOIP arena in amateur radio. Hop decides he is going to put up a Echolink node. He purchases the required items and begins the task of building an installing the equipment required to make his very own Echolink node. After getting everything running HOP notices that his node has some harmonic interference from a nearby FM radio station retrans site. Several days go by and after asking several fellow hams he comes to the conclusion that there is a grounding issue. So HOP goes to the local hardware store to get a couple of grounding rods. HOP places the 1st grounding rod right out side the window of the shack. Checks his node and no luck, still harmonics from the FM station. So HOP places another grounding rod at another corner of the house. Still no luck.
HOP decides the ground itself must be saturated so he goes back to the local hardware store and purchases 2 more grounding rods. He places these rods on the opposite side of the house. BAM suddenly the Echolink node is working! No Harmonics from the FM site. HOP is on his way to the new world of VOIP. The next day HOP lets his dog out to go to the bathroom. HOP's dog is a bit of a mutt of mostly beagle. Every morning the Dog , We'll call WB8DOG does his morning deposit in HOP's antenna farm.
WB8DOG has been chasing a particular rabbit around the yard for several weeks. WB8DOG is unaware of HOP's new grounding system. WB8DOG See's Mr. Rabbit around one of the corners of the house. Off like a shot WB8DOG rounds the corner after the rabbit and POW head on into the newly installed grounding rod head first. HOP within the shack hears the loud thud and walks outside to find out what the sound was? Witnessing WB8DOG staggering after the rabbit HOP is a bit confused as to what has happened.
However HOP notices the foot of protruding grounding rod is bent about 90 degree's. Thinks nothing of it and heads back in the shack. Later that evening WB8DOG doesn't seem to be acting right. HOP calls him over and after a visual inspection notices a golf ball size knot on the dogs head and also notices both the dog's eyes are blood shot. Needless to say WB8DOG never chased another rabbit after that day...
