Welcome to the Second issue of the Antics of the House of Pain.
“One Hour Smoke”
In his normal fashion the house of pain comes through again this week! Recently a fellow ham visited the house of pain. Carrying in hand a very nice and some what new Motorola CM-400, UHF radio. Upon arrival the fellow ham we'll call Tom. Acknowledges the HOP and states he has a radio for the House of Pain to try.
As the two converge in the House of Pain they begin to bench test the radio and all is well. Several hours go by of conversation and tinkering with other projects within the house of pain. Tom decides its time to head home. The two say there good byes and HOP goes inside to get some lunch. After returning to the house a pain HOP decides to install the radio in his vehicle. After installing the newly donated radio in his vehicle he notices it isn't working. HOP then removes the radio and takes the radio inside the house of pain.
Considering maybe there is a power issue. HOP connects the radio to his power supply and base antenna. He again notices he cannot make contact with any repeaters? He then gets on his 2m radio and calls out. Another fellow ham replies to HOP. HOP asks if the local ham could help him with some testing. The fellow ham acknowledges and the two move to 70cm simplex.
To HOP's amazement the fellow ham cannot hear him some 3 miles away? Less then one hour has gone by and the newly donated Motorola CM400 is Smoked.. HOP realizes he forgot to place the duct tape on the radio to keep the smoke in. Saddened and disappointed in his mistake he calls Tom on the phone and announces the fact that he has let the smoke out of the box. Tom asks? “HOP I have only been gone an hour, what happened?” HOP replies “I forgot the duct tape, sorry” Tom ask's? 'What Duct Tape?' HOP replies "The Duct Tape to keep the Smoke In!"
Stay tuned for more Antics of the House of Pain.
